St Andrews is a coastal town on the north-east Fife shore, the seat of the University of St
Andrews and the historical centre of the Kingdom's church. Three funeral directors hold premises in the town,
and the East Neuk firms — A Stephen and Peter Murray in Anstruther, Gibson of Tayport — also serve St Andrews
families.
Cremations from St Andrews go to Brewsterwells Crematorium at Stratheden, near Springfield
(KY15 5RR), which is the local crematorium for north-east Fife. The cremation fee is paid separately to the
operator and is not included in the funeral director's headline figure unless their price list explicitly says
so.
Deaths in St Andrews are registered at Cupar Registration Office, County Buildings,
St Catherine Street, Cupar, KY15 4TA — there is no registration office in St Andrews itself; the Cupar office
serves the whole of north-east Fife. Booking is by phone — Fife Council's central booking line is
03451 55 00 77. The death must be registered within eight days. For a step-by-step
walk-through of the first 48 hours, see what to do when someone
dies.
For burials, the main local cemeteries are Western Cemetery on Doubledykes Road, Eastern Cemetery, and the
historic St Andrews Cathedral graveyard (existing rights only). Lair purchase is arranged through Fife Council
Bereavement Services. Several families choose direct cremation instead,
which removes the burial-plot decision entirely.
Prices shown are taken from each funeral director's CMA Standardised Price List. They cover the funeral
director's own services. They do not include third-party fees: doctor's certification, the cremation or
burial fee, the celebrant, flowers, the order-of-service printing, or the wake. Always confirm the current
price with the funeral director directly before making a decision.
